AgiScene is an initiative that arose from years of joint collaboration of farmers meeting the day-to-day expectations of urban, rural and countryside management.
Today, AgriScene is fully capable of ensuring services across the spectrum - not just those associated traditionally in the agricultural community. Based close to junction 4 on the M40, and with our own haulage facilities AgriScene can reach any location relatively easily, quickly and reliably. To give you a more detailed background into our D & P group, I (Daniel Rooke) run as a partnership with my wife Penny. We started farming in 1997 in our own right after being successful on a 300 acre tenancy. Prior to this, I was running a contracting business and a machinery dealership in partnership with my parents formally known as F. W. Sales Limited, and my wife worked on her family farm based in and around High Wycombe. Since 1997 we have grown our farming enterprises into a 2,700 acre mixed arable, sheep and cattle operation. Some of our Landlords include Sir Edward Dashwood on the West Wycombe Estate, The National Trust on the Hughendon Manor Estate, and various contract farming agreements covering 1,000 acres from Lane End, Little Marlow, and Bourne End. Our livestock enterprise/grassland We currently run 2,000 breeding ewes based in and around the West Wycombe Estate and Hughendon Manor which includes the lambing open days at Ham Farm, Piddington which you maybe aware is open to families and children during the Easter holidays. We contract graze areas under stewardship type agreements for English Nature, Bucks County Council, and the National Trust, involving electro-dip, contract grazing and contract sheperding. We also control a 100 head of cattle purely for the same as detailed above. The remainder of our grassland is used for making horse haylage, hay and for contract grazing of polo horses during the winter. Arable and contract farming Our arable acreage is currently 1,600 acres which is made up of rented land, share farming agreements and contract farming arrangements. With our contract farming arrangements we aim to farm each individual clients holding to its requirements with their own cropping rotations as opposed to trying to gain an economy of scale of block cropping. Almost all of these farms have grassland which are given equal priority to the arable crops – timelness is the key to our successful operation every crop is treated appropriately. Muck spreading, carting and composting With K-Two 10 ton muck-spreading equipment our AgriScene services also provide agricultural waste and sludge management. You have an inquiry? Click here to e-mail us about muck-spreading. Other contracting work performed We are also involved in amenity/local authority/sub contract work. This entails areas of grassland which are cut and baled under stewardship type arrangements covering London, Reading, Uxbridge and Hillingdon – totalling approximately 1,000 acres per annum. Other contracts this year have included the ground works and re-laying of turf on a brand new athletic stadium located at Uxbridge in conjuction with agriculture and estate services in Reading, the construction of a new polo pitch in Marlow, and the re-seeding of grassland areas for new leys both on our own holdings and other areas covering some 500 acres. We perform a great deal of horse-paddock maintenance and weed control. Also 600 acres of cut and clear and weed control at RAF/MOD bases in Hampshire. Annually, we’ve undertaken golf course maintenance, baling of rough areas on Temple, Harleyford and Henley golf courses. Currently we are embarking upon the carting and spreading of compost from the High Heavens Green Waste Depot. This material is consequently available to all of the land that we rent/contract – giving a rich source of soil conditioner P and K, Sulphur and Nitrogen. In addition we are spreading a large quantity of horse manure from various polo/livery yards in the Maidenhead/Windsor area.
Our group has unrivalled experience with a clear understanding of the individual needs of each customer and tailor their service accordingly. We are actively seeking new partnerships and are always looking for new clients seeking a change in farming policy. |
